The Hotel Australasia at dusk, photographed head-on so the whole facade fills the frame — two tiers of iron-lace verandah, ornate parapets and warm interior light held against a deep blue evening sky.

Known to locals as the Grand Old Lady, the Australasia has stood on Imlay Street since 1904. It closed in 2010 and came close to demolition before the community fought to save it; Bega Valley Shire Council bought the building in 2016, and after a long restoration it reopened in late 2022, heritage listed and returned to something very close to its original face. This photograph is the building as it stands today — the centrepiece of Eden's main street, and one of the most recognisable façades on the far south coast.
