Merimbula Wall Art

Merimbula sits around an ocean-fed lake on the Sapphire Coast, and almost everything worth photographing here happens on the water. This collection gathers the pelican sculptures standing on their weathered posts at Fishpen, the turquoise boatshed at Mitchies Jetty, the historic 1902 wharf reaching out over the lake, oyster leases catching the last light on Top Lake, and first light breaking along Short Point.

Every image was made by John Martin. His parents retired to the Sapphire Coast in the early 1980s, so this coastline has always felt like home, and he returned to live in Merimbula in 2020. He trained at RMIT and is an accredited CASA commercial drone operator, ARN 1092457 — the aerial views of the lake and Fishpen were flown under that accreditation. Nothing here is stock photography.
